Woodcraft walk for SVP

On Saturday 21 June, a group of children from Stroud Woodcraft Folk took part in a sponsored walk to raise money for Stroud Valleys Project. Families with children aged from one to 10 walked laps of Stratford Park to show their support for SVP’s work, which includes a rolling programme of nature events on top of local habitat creation and care, wetland management, and tree planting.

Four children holding certificates for their sponsored walk. The littlest one is holding an SVP collection box.

“We’ve been lucky enough to have SVP facilitate several sessions for our groups,” explained Woodcraft Folk volunteer Martha Shepperd, who arranged the walk. “We wanted to show our support so we thought of turning one of our regular meet-ups into a space to raise some funds for them.

“It’s so important to engage our children with the natural world and help them find a way to contribute to the protection and enhancement of the incredible landscape and variety of wildlife that’s right on their doorstep.”

“We love being outside and helping nature so it’s really nice to do a sponsored walk,” said six-year-old Jed. “It was fun too!”

Woodcraft Folk, a movement for children and young people, is celebrating its centenary this year. There are groups for ages from two to 15, and enquiries can be sent to stroudwoodcraft@gmail.com.

If you’d like to donate to the little walkers, visit their Just Giving page here.

Well done to everyone who took part in the walk, and thanks to Martha for organising it!
