JOB DESCRIPTION – Communications and Fundraising Coordinator
THE WORK OF STROUD VALLEYS PROJECT
The aim of Stroud Valleys Project (SVP) is to protect and enhance the local environment by working with local communities to embrace sustainable development and biodiversity, and so to make Stroud and its surrounding area a better, healthier place in which to live for both present and future generations
Our strategy in pursuing these aims and objectives is to continue:
• to forge a greater awareness of environmental and biodiversity issues so that local people are able to influence local planning and policy-makers to ensure sustainability is at the heart of the local agenda; and
• to engage as many people as possible in the work of sustainable development by working with local partner agencies and health providers to provide a lively learning resource for local people of all ages.
BACKGROUND
Stroud Valleys Project (SVP) was founded over 30 years ago and is a registered charity committed to working with people for a better local environment. Although based in Stroud our work covers the wider Stroud District area – from Upton St Leonards in the north to Wotton-under-Edge in the south, and from the River Severn in the west to Minchinhampton in the east.

The Communications and Fundraising Coordinator will report to the Chief Executive.
Overall Purpose
To develop and implement a communication action plan to create more awareness of the charity and what it does. To develop a linked fundraising plan aimed at maximising income from all relevant income streams.
SVP comprises a small team of committed staff and a large number of volunteers, and the new appointee will be expected to operate within the existing team. They will also need to quickly develop an in-depth understanding of the projects undertaken by staff.
Key tasks
Communications
· To develop and implement a communications plan to run alongside the fundraising programme
· To identify principal stakeholders and work alongside the SVP staff and volunteers to develop an effective communications programme
· Create publicity materials for different audiences (volunteers, young people, funders, businesses, supporters) using SVP brand such as case studies and newsletters
· Proactively post, share up-to-date and relevant social media posts (eg. Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn) in line with our Social Media Guideline, and develop and manage news content on our website
· Build relationships with local and national media and to be aware of the national stories that impact at a local level
· Manage a list of national campaigns with which SVP should be involved
Fundraising
· To identify potential business/corporate partners and major donors in the Stroud District area and develop effective opportunities for their participation in future activities planned for SVP
· Explore potential new funding opportunities; research and write successful funding applications in collaboration with the CEO
· To build on and develop the success of Friends of SVP
· Manage and develop existing community fundraising eg Christmas Raffle and Lucky Severn Lottery
· To work with the CEO to identify fundraising opportunities and to help with the bidding process.
· Create networking opportunities within the wider community
· Support the CEO with preparing reports to funders and trustees
General responsibilities
· Attend training, events and meetings as required
· Work with other members of the team to ensure good safeguarding practice in all aspects of the charity's work and maintain good practice in confidentiality, equal opportunities, diversity, and inclusion
SVP has decided not to create a long list of demanding personal attributes. We appreciate that this is a challenging job which is very much results orientated and that suitable candidates might come from a range of differing backgrounds.
However, the ideal candidate will be able to provide evidence of the following:
• Proven track record in fundraising or communications
• Drive and motivation
• An interest in environmental issues
• Personable and a good team player
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Computer literacy
• Own transport preferred as travel to local sites will be required
• Clean, enhanced DBS check will be required
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Salary: To be discussed, dependent on experience
Start date: as soon as possible
Hours: 21 hours/week.Some evening and weekend work will be required for which time off in lieu will be given.
Location: Office location: Stroud. Applicants must be prepared to travel in the Stroud District area
Duration of contract: Permanent.
Probationary period: Three months.The post is subject to one month’s notice on either side.
Transport: Candidates should be car owners and be prepared to use their vehicles for work. Business related mileage will be reimbursed. Electric bike users and car club members may be considered.
Holidays: 33 days per year (includes bank holidays) pro-rata
