Capel’s Mill Wild Play

Wooden play equipment

An example of natural play equipment in action.

Playing in nature is proven to be good for children’s mental and physical well-being, but many children are spending less and less time outside.

With the support of Stroud District Council, Stroud Valleys Project is working on a project to improve the play provision for children in the town centre, by developing a Wild Play area at the Capel’s Mill site, just off Doctor Newton’s Way in Stroud.

Equipment will be aimed at encouraging children to engage in immersive and imaginative play. It will also be designed to make best use of the site, recognising and respecting the wildlife that makes the site its home, as well as the site’s rich industrial heritage.

To this end, equipment will be made of natural, sustainable materials and will be sympathetic to the site in its design and installation.

A public consultation was held during April and May of 2022. The results of which can be found here.

The report will now be considered by Stroud District Council ahead of a decision on what should be the next steps.

You can keep up to date with the project via our website, social media, or by signing up to our mailing list.
