Walks, Talks and Community Events

Strolling in Cashes Green

Once again, we have to thank the volunteer Events Group for planning and managing a varied and exciting programme of walks and talks, throughout the year.  By complementing the more active workshops and conservation days, these events offer us a great opportunity to widen our engagement with the community.

Check out events that are up and coming soon.

Recent highlights have included a presentation about bats and their habitats, complete with appearance of a young Pipistrelle rescued from a building site, and a walk around Stratford Park with local bat expert, Tony Metcalfe, where a variety of species were ‘listened’ to and some were even spotted.

Wildlife Wardens

Thanks to support from Stroud District Council and other Trust Funds, we have also been able to celebrate Apple Days this year and last by organising a family fun day at Holywell Orchard in Cam.  Cam is steeped in orchard history, with a long history of apple growing.  Last year, as well as a dazzling show from juggler and entertainer Mark Abbott, children enjoyed activities such as “Pin the Worm on the Apple” and the longest peel competition.  These days also give the opportunity to have a go at juicing apples from local gardens, and to taste different varieties of apple juice and swapping orchard stories.

Other events include walks and talks about the local flora and fauna often with local experts, including special events for people with visual and hearing impairment, and visits to stone mines, to find badgers, and to uncover fossils.
